How to look less tired

By Sophie Kelly In Hommage-Magazine

Looking tired can often make you feel rather self conscious, especially if there are little options when it comes to covering up your under eye-area. However, there are some natural lifestyle and skincare changes that you can easily make to stop you looking and feeling tired.

Get enough sleep

Sleep, get enough of it. Stick to a consistent bedtime to help set your  own natural body clock, that way when you get 10 minutes over your usual wake-up time, you’ll end up feeling like you’ve had a full-blown lie-in. 7-9 hours is the recommended amount of time that adults should be sleeping for every night. This may sound like a lot but that’s most likely because you’ve been depriving yourself from the correct amount of sleep time needed. 40% of adults actually get less than 7 hours of sleep so it’s no wonder that so many of us feel and look tired in the morning.

Limit what you do before bed

Before going to bed it’s also important to ensure you unwind and avoid anything that could actually cause you to be a lot more tired when you wake up. Stop using anything with an electronic screen about an hour before you go to sleep. Electronic light interrupts the cues that tell your body its time to get some sleep.

Also ensure you limit your caffeine and alcohol use before bedtime, both caffeine and alcohol are extremely dehydrating and so drinking too much of either will actually counteract any water you drink to try and stay hydrated. Alcohol also causes the blood vessels in your face to dilate which can lead to puffy under eyes when you wake up in the morning. If you drink either of these anywhere near before bedtime will almost always result in more tired looking face.

Another important element that some men may overlook when it comes to  looking tired is: Skincare. Switch up your usual routine that might be too harsh for the delicate under-eye area and swap it for something more gentle and hydrating.

HOMMAGE offer two hydrating eye serums. One is called Awaken, this serum targets dark circles, under eye puffiness and wrinkles and is infused with energy boosting caffeine, targeting the skin cells directly.

The second eye serum is the HOMMAGE silver label: Rejuvenate. Rejuvenate refreshes the under eye area and uses astringent compounds that naturally lift and tighten the skin, to reduce under eye bags. Also use the HOMMAGE Cleanser to brighten up your face as a whole, as dull skin can also make you look particularly tired.

Diet is also very important when it comes to looking tired. Ensure that you stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day as this will help you to look and feel better. Staying hydrated will help your skin to achieve an even tone and can help you to avoid dark under-eye circles.

Salty foods will also dehydrate you, which will make your eyes look puffy and will worsen your dark circles. Instead, eat food that is rich in vitamin C, as it is ascorbic acid, and it helps your body produce more collagen. Collagen is a protein in your body that keeps your skin healthy and hydrated.

Waking up and going straight for a cup of coffee is one of the worst things you can do as it makes your body believe it is reliant on coffee and that you can’t possibly wake up without it. This means that if you don’t have coffee one day you will look a lot more tired than you actually are.  Instead, opt for a large glass of cold water, this will wake you up and hydrate your skin.
